  19. It is included on the CD-ROM in Ventana's Official Netscape
  20. Navigator 3.0 Book. Netscape Navigator 3.0 is also available
  21. on the Internet at Netscape's web site, and in the Netscape
  22. Navigator Personal Edition ver. 3.0; which includes software
  23. to connect you to the Internet. If you wish to order over

  25. can also find the Personal Edition and the Official Netscape
  26. Navigator 3.0 Book in computer and book stores nationwide.

  37. well as information on the Internet and a Companion CD ROM.
  38. The CD features the Netscape Navigator 3.0 software and a
  39. 'Cool Sites' feature to help you start surfing the Web. The
  40. Netscape Navigator Personal Edition includes the Netscape
  41. Navigator 3.0 software, plus software to get you connected
  42. to the Internet and sign up with one of several Internet
  43. Service Providers. However, the Official Netscape Navigator
  44. 3.0 Book has more extensive documentation and tutorial
  45. information.

  48. Is the Netscape Navigator included in The Official Netscape
  49. Navigator 3.0 Book fully licensed or registered?

  51. The copy of Netscape Navigator 3.0 included with the book is
  52. the LAN version of Netscape Navigator. It is exactly the
  53. same software that Netscape distributes. The only difference
  54. in that our license terms with Netscape require that our
  55. customers contact Ventana, rather than Netscape, for
  56. technical support. You can register with Netscape easily by
  57. going on-line and launching Netscape. Once Netscape is
  58. running open the Help menu and select Registration
  59. Information. This will take you to Netscape's Web site,
  60. where you can register your copy of Netscape Navigator.

  84. You can install Netscape Navigator without using the CD's
  85. viewer program following these directions: Use File Manager
  86. or Windows Explorer to open the CD-ROM drive. You should see
  87. two directories: 16 and 32. Open the 16 directory if you are
  88. using Windows 3.x or the 32 directory if you have Windows
  89. 95. Open the Disk1 directory and double click Setup.exe to
  90. install Netscape.

  95. Netscape offers subscriptions to all upgrades to Netscape
  96. Navigator, and you can find more information about the

  103. Use the 16 bit version with Windows 3.x. Use the 32 bit

  115. Can I save my bookmarks and preferences from earlier
  116. versions of Netscape when I install 3.0?

  118. When Netscape 3.0 installs, it saves your bookmarks and
  119. preferences. It is always a good idea to make backups just
  120. in case. Copy your bookmark.htm and netscape.ini files to a
  121. floppy before installing Netscape 3.0.

  124. Will Netscape Navigator 3.0 work with my operating system?
  125.  
  126. There are versions of Netscape 3.0 available for Windows
  127. 3.x, Windows 95 or Windows NT, Macintosh, and UNIX. The
  128. minimum requirements for Windows computers are a 386
  129. processor with 8MB of RAM and 6Mb of free hard disk space.
  130. The minimum requirements for a Macintosh computer are a
  131. 68030 processor with 8MB or RAM and 5MB of available disk
  132. space.

  135. Why do I get a 'no DNS entry' error message despite being
  136. connected to the Internet?
  137.  
  138. DNS stands for Domain Name Services, which is the method
  139. used to translate the name of a computer system (which is
  140. easier for humans to remember) into its numeric IP address
  141. (which is needed by any computer trying to connect to it).
  142. The "server does not have a DNS entry" error means that
  143. Netscape Navigator was unable to find a DNS name server on
  144. your network that could find the IP address corresponding to
  145. the name you gave. If you get a "The server does not have a
  146. DNS entry" error when you try to access a certain web
  147. server, then this could indicate any of several problems:
  148.  
  149. 1.) There was a momentary network problem -- your network or
  150. your domain name server was too busy to handle your
  151. connection attempt. A second attempt to connect to the Web
  152. site in question might succeed. If this happens to you
  153. often, you might want to try connecting during off-peak
  154. (less busy) hours, such as in the morning; also, inform your
  155. system administrators of the problem. This is common cause
  156. of the "No DNS" error.
  157.  
  158. 2.) Your computer network is inside an Internet firewall,
  159. and you do not have the necessary authorization to access
  160. the outside world. Contact your local system administrators
  161. to see if this is the case. If it is, you will have to go
  162. into the Netscape Preferences and configure Netscape
  163. Navigator to use a Proxy Server.

  165. 3.) The server name you're looking for doesn't exist, either
  166. because you've typed its name incorrectly, you were given
  167. the wrong name to use, or that server is down right now.
  168. Double check the URL and try again.
  169.  
  170. 4.) Your computer's TCP/IP software isn't set up properly.
  171. This will prevent you from accessing any Web site. To solve
  172. this, you will have to go over your TCP/IP software
  173. configuration with your system administrator.
  174.  
  175. 5.)Your network might be set up to use only NIS name mapping
  176. instead of DNS, in which case you will not be able to use
  177. the Navigator at all. Netscape Navigator only supports DNS,
  178. not NIS.

  181. Is Netscape Navigator 3.0 available on floppy disk?
  182.  
  183. Netscape 3.0 is available on 3.5 inch floppies for
  184. purchasers of the Official Netscape Navigator 3.0 Book. To
